Chippa United victorious over Kaizer Chiefs─── 15:35 Sun, 16 Oct 2022
In the only win for this weekend’s four Premier Soccer League matches, Chippa United beat the Soweto Giants, Kaizer Chiefs, 2-1 on Saturday, the 15th October, at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
Putting an end to their winning streak, a shock loss to Chippa United saw the Amakhosi miss out on their chance to reach the top of the log, seeing them stay in fourth. The win for the Chilli Boys, however, pushed them up to seventh on the log and secured them a third win for the season. Mamelodi Sundowns remains at the top of the log with a two-point lead to Kaizer Chiefs.
The defeat for Kaizer Chiefs is reported to be a shock seeing their winning streak followed by a game of missed chances ultimately resulting in their loss on Saturday evening. The Amakhosi head coach, Arthur Zwane, referred to these missed chances in the post-match interview stating the following;
“Look how many chances we created in the second half and I believe had we taken two of them we could’ve won the game but once you don’t take your chances, this is the story.”
In favour of Chippa United, the 89th minute of the game saw a disappointing own goal by Chief’s Edmilson after deflecting Pfumbidzai’s header into the net, giving Chippa United the 2-1 lead that won the game.
The other three matches over the weekend between Golden Arrows and Stellenbosch at the Princess Magogo Stadium, Orlando Pirates and AmaZulu at the Orlando Stadium and the KZN derby between Richards Bay and Maritzburg United at the King Goodwill Zwelithini Stadium, all ended in draws.
On Tuesday, the 18th of October, Chippa will be hosting Sekhukhune United and Chiefs welcome TS Galaxy on Wednesday 19 October.
