Lions of Teranga to make do without Mané in World Cup openers─── MORGAN PIEK 09:55 Wed, 16 Nov 2022
The Ballon D'Or runner-up, Sadio Mané, will miss out of Senegal's opening matches of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Mané got injured last week during a German Bundesliga game between Bayern Munich and Werder Bremen, and there were concerns that he would miss the World Cup.
Senegal won the Africa Cup of Nations and qualified for the World Cup thanks to decisive penalties by the former Liverpool marksman.
The team official of the Lions of Teranga, Abdoulaye Sow, said they will have to make do without their star player in the initial stages of the global showpiece that will be played in the Middle East for the first time.
“We will have to rely on playing the first games without Sadio and win without Sadio because we have 25 players apart from Sadio.
“No one would have wanted it, but that's what's happened to us.”
Senegal will face the Netherlands at 18:00 on Monday night in their opening game.
