Giroud targets Henry's record─── MORGAN PIEK 08:03 Fri, 18 Nov 2022
The French striker, Olivier Giroud, will be hoping to change his fortunes with the boot during the 2022 FIFA World Cup that gets underway on Sunday.
The AC Milan player will be playing in his third World Cup, but he will be desperate to improve his below-par record at the global showpiece of just one goal in 12 outings.
Should he score three or more goals at the tournament, he will replace the legendary Thierry Henry as France's all-time leading goal scorer in international football.
Giroud said he has targets he has set for himself at the World Cup.
"For me, it is kind of a blessing to have the opportunity to play for my country at a third World Cup. I want to enjoy every single moment," said the in-form French marksman.
"Of course, I have this target in my head to beat 'Titi' but the main one is as a team, to go as far as we can in the competition."
"I don't know if I am in my best form and if you look at some of the goals I have scored in the past, I have already gotten some that have been a bit like Zlatan's.
"I do like scoring acrobatic goals.
"But it is true that I am in a good spell. I feel good physically, I am happy with my game and at my club.
"At the age of 36 it is a gift to be able to be so important and to feel so good, and I hope to keep this going."
France begins their title defence on Tuesday night when they face Australia at the Al Janoub Stadium.
