Broos confident they can beat Liberia─── MORGAN PIEK 13:41 Tue, 28 Mar 2023
The Bafana Bafana coach, Hugo Broos, believes that they are better prepared for Liberia ahead of Tuesday evening’s crucial Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Monrovia.
The Group K game is a much-win encounter for both teams after the 2-2 draw at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto on Friday night in the first leg.
The last-ditch draw would have given the Lone Stars a lot of confidence ahead of their home-match, however, South Africa will be desperate to set the record straight.
Speaking before the game Broos said they have a better understanding of their opponents and know that they will be tested, but he believes that his team has it in them to qualify by winning.
“I know also that the Liberians will not give us presents,” said the former Belgian international defender.
“We gave them a little bit hope on Friday, we gave them belief. It’s up to use now from the beginning of the game that they don’t have to believe and don’t have that to have a good result.
“It will be tough, I know it. I didn’t see the pitch, but I think artificial turf is always tricky. We know we have to do it and I’m also convinced that my team is ready for tomorrow.
“I know that will not be enough. I think everyone saw that if we play at our level that we are the better team but in football it’s not enough. It’s not enough to be only the better team - that’s what Liberia proved and showed us on Friday.
“It’s up to us now to not make the same mistakes and to begin the game ready. We cannot let the Liberians think that it can be possible for them.
“I can say that from this chair it’s easy, we will have to do it tomorrow. I believe in my team that we can do it and go back to South Africa with a victory.”
Tuesday evening’s do-or-die game at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex kick-off at 18:00.
