Gallants beat Royal AM with late surge in Bloemfontein─── MORGAN PIEK 07:35 Thu, 06 Apr 2023
The Bloemfontein-based Marumo Gallants earned a big win in the Premier Soccer League on Wedneday night to claim three valuable points.
Gallants beat John Maduka’s Royal AM 3-1 at the Toyota Stadium as they kept fighting to avoid relegation.
Lesiba Nku scored for Gallants in the 11th minute and were heading for a 1-0 victory, but Mfundo Thikazi equalised for the visitors with five minutes left of regulation time.
On the stroke of full time, Cheick Soumahoro handed Gallants the lead again before Mahlatse Makudubela sealed the deal in the 8th minute of stoppage time.
This handed Gallants a first-ever win in Bloemfontein after recently relocating to the city.
The coach of Gallants, Selaotse Mosala, told OFM Sport that it was one of his team’s best performances of the season.
“I don't have words for this performance because in our situation it is all about results,” said Mosala.
“It is always about the performance and the enjoyment was there.
“Having said that, we cannot let games go this way where we kill it early and then allow our opponents back into the game.
“In the next games we have to make sure that we kill the games early.”
The win still sees Gallants at the bottom of the log but they now trail Maritzburg United by a single point. These two teams will still face each other at the Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg towards the end of the season and this game may prove to be the decider.
