City win third straight Premiership title─── MORGAN PIEK 08:36 Mon, 22 May 2023
Manchester City were crowned as the champions of England on the weekend for a third straight season and they are still on course for a season treble.
City won the league on Saturday already before they got to face Chelsea at home. This came as their main title rivals, Arsenal, lost a very important match 2-0 against Nottingham Forest. The Gunners needed to win the game in order to stay in the title race.
On Sunday City beat Chelsea 1-0 at the Etihad Stadium to seal the deal and clinch the league for a five time in six years.
City are still well on course for a treble this season as they still have to face Manchester United in the FA Cup final at Wembley, while they will take on Internazionale in the final of the UEFA Champions League in Istanbul.
After the win against Chelsea on Sunday, Guardiola said that in his mind until they’ve won the Champions League they haven’t achieved anything yet.
“A fifth Premier League in six years, seven in 12, I could not imagine winning five in six,” said Guardiola.
“I have the feeling we've done something exceptional. It's something extraordinary - people know how exceptional it is.
“But to be considered one of the greatest we have to win the Champions League, otherwise it's not complete.
“You have to win in Europe, the Champions League, to be considered one of the best teams like Manchester United or Liverpool but also it's unfair to say if you don't win it, the Premier League doesn't make sense.”
The FA Cup final will be played on 3 June in London, while a week later it’s the Champions League final in Turkey.
