Manchester City win Champions League for the treble─── MORGAN PIEK 09:21 Sun, 11 Jun 2023
Manchester City has won UEFA Champions League for the first time in the club’s history by beating Inter Milan on Saturday night in Istanbul, Turkey.
City beat the Serie A giants 1-0 thanks to a 66th minute goal by the Spanish midfielder, Rodri.
The goal was enough to series City cap off a brilliant season which saw the club claiming an historic treble.
Earlier City won the English Premiership for the fifth time in six seasons, while last week they beat Manchester United at Wembley in London to win the FA Cup.
The Citizens become on the second English team to claim the prestigious season treble.
The Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, who will now go down as one of the greatest coaches in English football said it was written in the stars and this was their time.
“It was written in the stars that we’d win this season – and we did, said Guardiola.
“I’m feeling tired, calm and satisfied. This fucking trophy is so difficult to win. We knew it would be hard. They are really good. We were anxious in the first half but it was a question of being patient. I told them to be patient.
“You have to be lucky, with Ederson at the end, and this competition is a toss of a coin. The momentum came from winning the Premier League and FA Cup and now we have this.
“It was not our best performance. I have no energy to think of next season and we need a break. We will start from zero and it’s our job. Winning the treble is so difficult.”
