Jane could be fit and ready to face Italy─── MORGAN PIEK 07:39 Mon, 31 Jul 2023
Banyana Banyana has received some potentially welcome news ahead of their final Group G game of the FIFA Women's World Cup being played in Australia and New Zealand.
The captain, Refiloe Jane, could be fit for Wednesday's all-important game against Italy in Wellington.
Jane was stretched off the field during the 2-2 draw to Argentina, but scans confirmed her injury is minor and she is expected back soon.
The national women’s team doctor, Nthabiseng Maesela, indicated that Jane should be fit for the crunch game against the Italy.
“Refiloe is doing well and after going for a scan it was confirmed that she sustained a soft tissue injury and she should be back on the field soon,” said Maesela.
“I can further confirm that there are no other injuries or illnesses within the team.
“Everyone is healthy and ready to continue with preparations for our final group match against Italy on Wednesday.”
Meanwhile, because of Italy's 5-0 defeat to Sweden, South Africa just needs to win to advance to the knockout round.
Wednesday's game between South Africa and Italy at the Wellington Regional Stadium kicks off at 9:00.
