Jordaan grilled over Bafana bonuses─── MORGAN PIEK 07:30 Thu, 15 Feb 2024

“The players know what they've agreed on and you must then ask them. That is something we must still discuss. It needs to be finalised with the players first and whether they'll disclose to you is up to them.“
The President of the South African Football Association, Danny Jordaan, has once again been slammed regarding bonuses for national players.
This comes following the heroic Bafana Bafana’s return to South Africa on Wednesday after their Africa Cup of Nations campaign where they managed to win the bronze medal.
During the press conference at the O.R Tambo International airport in Johannesburg, Jordaan was questioned about the bonuses.
Jordaan, who was visibly taken aback by the question, refused to provide any details, but when pressed said they knew to receive some reward for their campaign.
“We don't know - the tournament ended yesterday and you want an answer already. That will be up to CAF. They will let us know when they are ready,” said Jordaan.
“The players know what they've agreed on and you must then ask them. That is something we must still discuss.
“It needs to be finalised with the players first and whether they'll disclose to you is up to them.
“It is their money and their income and they will be at their discretion. Of course, this effort must be rewarded.”
It is reported that the players will each earn up to a R1 million for the efforts in the Ivory Coast.
Last year the national women’s team Banyana Banyana came close to boycotting the FIFA Women’s World Cup due to bonus issues.
The players threatened to strike and it was only because of an eleventh hour intervention by various parties which led to the team boarding their flights to Australasia.
