“To answer your question - it's been fantastic in the camp and you can see it in our performances as well, it shows. I'm very proud to be a part of such an amazing team.”

The Kaizer Chiefs centre-back, Given Msimango, will be looking to make his Bafana Bafana debut on Tuesday when they face Zimbabwe in Bloemfontein.

The 27-year-old was called up to the national team for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Nigeria and Zimbabwe after the seasoned Mamelodi Sundowns player, Grant Kekana, was withdrawn because of an injury.

The Amakhosi defender conceded that he was on holiday with his wife when he received the call to report for duty with the national team,

While Msimango travelled with the team to Nigeria last week he didn’t get to play during the 1-1 against the Super Eagles in Uyo.

While Msimango is yet to play for South Africa at senior level, he told OFM Sport that it’s all about having the right mindset and having a strong leadership group in the squad which makes it a lot easier to slot in.

“Having a player with the statue of Ronwen Williams in the team is very important,” said Msimango on the experienced players.

“Him together with the other captains and leaders in the team such as Percy Tau, Themba Zwane, Teboho Mokoena and the likes of contribute to the success of the team.

“Having players of that magnitude and that much experience in terms of African football does help the team perform the way we perform.

“For me to be a part of this group helps me to grow my game as well - I'm just picking up the bits and pieces and I'm seeing where I can add it into my game to improve as an individual.

“To answer your question - it's been fantastic in the camp and you can see it in our performances as well, it shows. I'm very proud to be a part of such an amazing team.”

Tuesday night’s game between Bafana Bafana and Zimbabwe at the Toyota Stadium kicks off at 18:00.
