German club Borussia Dortmund just edged Mamelodi Sundowns FC 4-3 at the Fifa Club World Cup at TQL Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio, on Saturday night.

The star of the match was undoubtedly the 19-year old Jobe Bellingham, who scored 45 minutes into his full debut and earned him Michelob Ultra Superior Player of the Match.

Sundowns had a dream start when Lucas Ribeiro received a ball at midfield, evaded a defender and charged past another before slotting home past Gregor Kobel.  Dortmund equalised a short while later, thanks to the boot of Felix Nmecha.  The goal settled the European side, and Serhou Guirassy gave them the lead when he polished off a slick one-two combination with Julian Brandt by thumping in a header.

Bellingham added another goal right before the break, sending the European side into the sheds 3 – 1 in the lead.  Dortmund managed a fourth goal when Daniel Svensson’s deep cross was deflected into the net by Khuliso Mudau.

But the South Africans were not done yet, and Iqraam Rayners’ follow-up from his own header off the post, made it a two-goal affair. They cut the gap to one on Lebo Mothiba’s fine finish, but Dortmund would hang to secure full points.

After the match, Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso says his team really showed what they are made of, playing a quality side like Dortmund.

All teams in Group F have played two matches so far, with Brazilian club Fluminense FS topping the group table with four points (one win and one draw). Dortmund is in second place – also with four points (one win, one draw), with Sundowns third on three points (one win, one loss).

The South Korean Club Ulsan have not won a match yet and is fourth with zero points.
