New Gallants coach Laffite gets down to business in Bloemfontein─── MORGAN PIEK 10:26 Wed, 09 Jul 2025

The new Marumo Gallants head coach, Alexandre Laffite, reported for duty in Bloemfontein on Tuesday and immediately got pre-season training underway with the team ahead of the 2025/26 Premier Soccer League (PSL) season.
Laffite takes the reins at the Bloemfontein-based club following the departure of Abdes Ouaddou, who has since joined Orlando Pirates in Soweto.
At just 28 years old, the Frenchman already boasts an impressive CV. He guided Stade d’Abidjan from the brink of relegation to lifting the Ivorian Ligue 1 title in his debut season.

Speaking to OFM Sport, Laffite said he plans to draw on his previous experience to help Gallants reach new heights.
“There’s no real pressure because in the past I’ve taken a team from fighting relegation all the way to the CAF Champions League group stages,” said Laffite.
“I won the league in Ivory Coast with Stade d’Abidjan, even though they weren’t the biggest or best team in Côte d’Ivoire. For me, this is a great opportunity to build on the foundation that’s already been laid here, and I’m excited to help the team improve on last season’s performance.”
Laffite added that he wants to introduce what he describes as “beautiful and attractive football”, a style that will be based on the strengths of his players.
“Because we’re working with South African players, it’s important to adapt to each player’s profile,” he explained. “In my previous job in Ivory Coast, we played a more European style of football, but the players adapted well.
“Football is a universal game. If your game principles are clear and you work hard in training, you can always align with the team’s style. Adapting to the players’ profiles is essential, but it’s never a limitation.”

Marumo Gallants have also confirmed ten new signings ahead of the upcoming season. The most high-profile addition is striker Jaisen Clifford, who was previously linked with Orlando Pirates.
Former Kaizer Chiefs and Stellenbosch FC defender Darrel Matsheke has also joined the squad after a brief spell at Kruger United. Former Golden Arrows midfielder Simo Luthuli is another notable new face among the ten recruits.
The new PSL season is set to kick off in August, although the official fixtures are yet to be released.
