Kaizer Chiefs broke their losing streak, striking at the death to beat Durban City 1-0 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Friday (31/10).
The man of the moment was Flavio Silva coming off the bench to score in the 88th minute giving Chiefs’ their first win in five Betway Premiership matches. Amakhosi have now moved up to third place in the standings, one point ahead of Orlando Pirates, who face Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday.
Gavin Hunt’s side have now suffered back-to-back defeats, and they remain tied with Polokwane City (6th) and AmaZulu (7th) on 15 points in fifth position.
In Friday night’s other Betway Premiership match, a late goal by Siwelele FC secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Sekhukhune United at the Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium. The winning goal was scored by South Africa under-20 international Siviwe Magidigidi, who netted his third goal of the season.
‘Elevated Siwelele to the 12th spot’
The victory elevated Siwelele to the 12th spot in the league standings, having eleven points from eleven matches. Coach Lehlohonolo Seema’s side will travel to Cape Town, where they are scheduled to lock horns with Stellenbosch FC in another league game on 5 November.
Sekhukhune, on the other hand, remains second in the standings, having accumulated 20 points from ten matches. The Limpopo side will be determined to get their bid to win the league title back on track when they play host to Richards Bay on 4 November.
‘Orbit College FC will host Magesi FC’
In Saturday’s other matches, Orbit College FC will host Magesi FC at Olympia Park in Rustenburg, while Richards Bay travel to Polokwane to take on Polokwane City.
In the final match of the day, Chippa United will take on Amazulu FC at the Buffalo City Stadium in East London.
