The Bloemfontein-based Premier Soccer League club, Marumo Gallants, have suspended their head coach, Alexandre Lafitte.

The news comes after Gallants suffered yet another setback on Sunday, going down 1–0 to Durban City FC at their temporary home, the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville. The club has yet to register a win in 2026 and has also failed to find the back of the net this year – a worrying drought that continues to deepen the pressure.

The last time Gallants tasted victory was on 9 November, when they edged Golden Arrows 4–2 on penalties at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Durban during the semi-finals of the Telkom Knockout Cup.

Their most recent goal came on 30 November in a 1–1 draw against bottom-of-the-log Magesi FC – also the last occasion on which they picked up league points.

Marumo currently sit 14th on the log with 15 points. The only thing keeping them out of the relegation zone is a slightly superior goal difference to that of 15th-placed Orbit College FC.

On Monday, the club, which is also dealing with serious off-field matters in court, confirmed the lack of results, along with issues relating to a failure to comply with contractual duties, led to the suspension of the 28-year-old French coach.

“Marumo Gallants F.C. confirms head coach Alexandre Lafitte has been suspended with immediate effect, pending an internal disciplinary process.

“The suspension follows issues relating to failure to comply with contractual duties. The club has also not been performing to the expected standard in recent fixtures.

“The club takes matters of governance, professionalism, and accountability seriously. As such, the necessary internal processes are being followed in line with the club’s policies and contractual obligations.

“Management is concerned about the team’s current poor performance and will be announcing the acting head coach in due course.

“Marumo Gallants F.C. would like to assure its supporters, partners, and stakeholders team operations continue as normal, and the team remains fully focused on preparations for the upcoming fixtures.

“The club appreciates the continued support and understanding from its fans and partners during this period. Further communication will be issued if and when appropriate.”

Gallants’ next league outing is on Wednesday, when they face Chippa United at the Buffalo City Stadium in East London. Kick-off is scheduled for19:30.
