The 30-year-old forward arrived in Bloemfontein last season when he joined Marumo Gallants following an extensive spell playing professionally in Europe, including stints in Malta and Hungary. During the 2025/26 campaign he was largely deployed as a second-half substitute, providing energy and attacking spark from the bench.

Clifford’s move comes amid growing speculation that Marumo Gallants are set to end their stay in Bloemfontein after just two seasons. The club is widely expected to relocate to Rustenburg, with confirmation anticipated on Tuesday during their press conference in Sandton.

The proposed move has been on the cards for some time, particularly after Gallants struggled to attract consistent home support following the arrival of Siwelele FC. While Gallants often played in front of modest crowds, Siwelele quickly captured the imagination of football supporters in Bloemfontein and re-established one of the league’s most passionate fan bases.

Clifford is among eight players who have parted ways with Gallants. Veteran Zimbabwean goalkeeper Washington Arubi is another notable departure and is expected to continue his career back in Zimbabwe.

Speaking to OFM Sport, Clifford said he is excited about joining one of the country’s most ambitious clubs.

“It’s an honour to be able to work with what I think is one of the most underrated coaches we have in South Africa in Coach Lehlohonolo Seema.

“The entire technical team brings a lot of knowledge and experience, so it’s super exciting. Siwelele is probably one of the top four or five teams in the country and it’s a very well-run club.

“I’m very excited and honoured, and I’m happy to be staying in Bloemfontein with the fans because, for me, they’re the best fans in the country.”

Although the Premier Soccer League has not yet released the 2026/27 fixture list, Siwelele will kick off their new campaign on Sunday, 2 August, when they welcome TS Galaxy to the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein.

The game was originally scheduled to be played at the Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium, but was moved due to essential pitch rehabilitation. Kick-off is scheduled for 18:00.
