Another big battle awaits between Sinner and Alcaraz─── ILSE SMALBERGER 08:39 Sat, 12 Jul 2025

Serbia’s Novak Djokovic’s dreams of winning a record 25th Grand Slam title has been shattered by a ruthless display of tennis by world no. 1, the Italian Jannik Sinner.
The seven-time Wimbledon champion was beaten comprehensively in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3 and 6-4 in a match that lasted just short of two hours.
It was the fifth straight victory for the reigning Australian Open and US Open champion in a major semifinal against Djokovic and his fourth consecutive major final.
Djokovic started well, but Sinner took control of the match early on. The Serb suffered a fall and subsequent injury at the end of his four-set quarterfinal victory over Flavio Cobolli, and at times appeared hampered against Sinner.
At the post-match press conference, the 38-year Djokovic reflected on how his age might have finally caught up with him.
‘He was too strong’
“Honestly, wasn’t really a pleasant feeling on the court,” he said. “Yeah, I don't want to talk, in details, about my injury and just whine about not managing to play my best. I want to congratulate Jannik for another great performance. That's it. He's in the finals. He was too strong.”
Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz will now face off in a second straight Grand Slam. The two met last month in the final of the French Open at Roland Garros, where Alcaraz finally triumphed after a mammoth five set match in which Sinner led by two sets and seen three championship points saved.
Two-time defending champion Alcaraz won the first semi-final on Friday against American Taylor Fritz in four sets.
