Sinner wins Wimbledon for the first time─── MORGAN PIEK 08:21 Mon, 14 Jul 2025

The world number one, Jannik Sinner, won his first Wimbledon title on Sunday after a thrilling final on Centre Court in London.
Sinner beat the back-to-back defending champion, Carlos Alcaraz, in the gentlemen’s singles final, coming from a set down to claim the prestigious grass-court Grand Slam.
Although the Italian dropped the opening set to the former world number one from Spain, he never appeared out of control and looked destined to lift the trophy.

Alcaraz took the first set, but Sinner responded superbly, regrouping to seal the match 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 and secure his fourth Grand Slam title.
Following his sensational win at SW19, Sinner – who had a fair bit of luck on his side in his earlier match against Grigor Dimitrov – said that winning Wimbledon is the most special moment of his career so far, describing it as anything but easy. “This is the part that I’m most proud of, because it really hasn’t been easy,” said Sinner.
“I’ve always tried to be honest with myself, having those internal conversations – you know, the ‘what ifs?’ – and I’ve always tried to accept things as they are.
“Things happen. And honestly, if you lose a Grand Slam final like that, it’s much better than getting absolutely crushed and winning only two games.
“So I just kept going, kept pushing. I trained with high intensity every day because I felt like I could play really well. That’s why I said after Roland-Garros it wasn’t the time to get down on myself – because another Slam was just around the corner, and I did really well here.”

“It’s been incredibly emotional – even if I don’t cry – because only I and those closest to me truly know what we've been through, both on and off the court. And trust me, it’s been anything but easy.”
Meanwhile, in the ladies singles final on Saturday, a new champion was crowned when former world number one Iga Swiatek demolished American Amanda Anisimova 6-0, 6-0 to win Wimbledon and claim her sixth Grand Slam title.
