Slimkat back in Bafana Bafana fold

───   12:13 Thu, 30 Aug 2012

Johannesburg - Gordon Igesund announced his Bafana Bafana squad today at SAFA House in Nasrec, Johannesburg, as the four time PSL winning coach begins his tenure at the helm of the South African national team.

Igesund has stuck with a large part of the old guard, however has brought in some uncapped players as he looks to rebuild the national team for next year’s African Cup of Nations and qualification for the 2014 FIFA Soccer World Cup.

Moeneeb Josephs has returned to the national team after having decided to retire from international football earlier this year, while Tokelo Rantie has been left out due to his fitness levels.

Teko Modise, Oupa Manyisa and Andile Jali have all been excluded from the squad, however Steven Pienaar will continue to captain the team and lead from the middle of the park.

The squad will face Brazil in Sao Paulo on September 7, and take on Mozambique four days later at the Mbombela Stadium, on September 11.

The squad is:

Goalkeepers: Wayne Sandilands, Moeneeb Josephs, Itumeleng Khune

Defenders: Siyabonga Sangweni, Bevan Fransman, Bongani Khumalo, Erick Mathoho, Anele Ngcongca, Punch Masenamela, Thabo Matlaba

Midfielders: Kamohelo Makotjo, Kgosi Ntlhe, Steven Pienaar, Rewneilwe Letsholonyane, Siphiwe Tshabalala, Thulani Serero, Katlego Mashego (Free State Stars), Dean Furman (Oldham Athletic), Kagisho Dikgacoi

Strikers: May Mahlangu, Bernard Parker, Lerato Chabangu, Siyabonga Nomvete, Dino Ndlovu, Thamsanqa Gabuza - soccerladuma
