Bloemfontein - Fiery Griquas lock Jonathan Adendorf is in a stable condition in Mediclinic Kimberley after being robbed and stabbed on Saturday night.
Although details around the incident are unclear at this time, it happened outside a Kimberley watering-hole following their narrow 20-19 defeat to Western Province on Saturday.
Adendorf and the Griquas team physiotherapist Lance Lemmetjies were returning to their car when the attack occurred.
According to Lemmetjies he stopped to talk to someone while Adendorf carried on towards their car. In that time Adendorf was hit over the head with a blunt object, robbed and then stabbed.
One of the stab wounds punctured a lung. No charge has been laid at the police yet, one is expected to be made today.
The injury to the exciting lock comes as major blow to the men from Kimberley as their are thin in the lock department.
At this stage Adendorf is expected to be out of action for no less than six weeks.
The Griquas face the Free State Cheetahs in Bloemfontein tein on Saturday in the big Central South Africa derby.
