Former mayor eyes municipal elections | News Article

The former mayor of Mangaung and leader of the Afrikan Alliance of Social Democrats (AASD), Papi Mokoena, believes his newly formed party has the potential to grow and be a force to be reckoned with on the political scene.

Mokoena was speaking exclusively to OFM News at the Results Operational Center in Bloemfontein at the weekend.

Mokoena whose party was contesting the national elections for the first time, says he is upbeat that his party would grow from strength to strength in the next few years.

AASD recorded 1 646 votes (0,19%) and failed to win a single seat both provincially and nationally, but Mokoena is adamant they would do well in the municipal elections in two years' time.

He says politics is not a sprint but a marathon and they are slowly making inroads.

Mokoena spent a few years as mayor of Mangaung before he was removed after being arrested for fraud. He was, however, later acquitted.

He added that he would diligently serve his people and make a difference, particularly in economic growth.
