Trompsburg hospital feels the heat from disgruntled staff─── OLEBOGENG MOTSE 08:34 Wed, 05 Jun 2019
The Albert Nzula District Hospital in the Free State town of Trompsburg has come in the spotlight as disgruntled nurses demanding their overtime hours were allegedly chased away from the hospital head’s office by security on Tuesday 4 June.
The Health & Other Services Personnel Trade Union of South Africa (Hospersa) in the province tells OFM News hospital management will be meeting with labour unions on Wednesday to resolve the contentious relationship brewing between the institution and staff. Hospersa spokesperson in the province, Sam Ramokoatsi, did not elaborate on what some of those burning issues are but promised to do so soon. OFM News, on the other hand, has been informed by a nurse - who has asked not to be named - that the issue is indeed the off duty system which, according to an internal memorandum issued by the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mosebi Thejane, was meant to come into effect from 1 June 2019. Ramokoatsi says nurses are not picketing as earlier alleged.
This is a developing story.
The R380 million hospital has been referred to as a white elephant by some of the health department’s naysayers, with a shortage of specialist personnel and other staff affecting the functionality of the hospital.
