New #Covid19 cases rise by over 3 000, 164 new deaths─── 08:30 Sun, 19 Sep 2021
The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) said on Saturday evening that the recent surge in Covid-19 infections seems to be showing signs of a sustained downward trend.
The Institute reported that 3 286 new coronavirus cases had been recorded since its previous report.
This increase represents an 8,0% positivity rate.
The majority of new cases are from KwaZulu-Natal (25%), followed by the Eastern Cape (16%) and Western Cape (15%).
The death toll has climbed to 86 116, with 164 new coronavirus-related deaths reported.
By Saturday evening, 15 970 308 million vaccines had been administered nationwide, with over 51 000 vaccines administered over the last 24 hours.
