SARU unveil radical new Springbok jersey─── 00:01 Tue, 01 Apr 2014
SARU today announced that the team will be debuting a new red and gold kit in 2014. The team will wear the kit for the first time when they take to the field against Wales in the first test match of the 2014 season.
The new kit is of the highest standard. The striking red colour evokes feelings of passion, strength, courage and power. South African Rugby Union (SARU) said that the change from traditional green to red had not been done without some soul-searching.
Jurie Roux, CEO of the SARU: “We are an innovative company and we would be foolish if we did not look at ways to move the game forward. There is always a risk of being dated and we thought there was no better time to make this announcement – before the new jersey is unveiled later this month.”
The team had ushered in a new era under Coach Heyneke Meyer and the evolution of that team was symbolised in the new red and gold kit. He added: “This is mirrored in Absa’s belief in constant innovation. The Springboks playing in red and gold will add that additional dimension to South African rugby.”
The final new kit will be modelled and revealed to the public at an exclusive event taking place in Cape Town on Thursday, 24 April.
