Potch brawl: No case opened─── 05:31 Tue, 15 Apr 2014
Cape Town - A female Potchefstroom student, who was allegedly assaulted by a UCT rugby player following last week's Varsity Cup final, is yet to lodge a complaint with the police.
UCT dramatically beat Pukke 39-33 in Potchefstroom, scoring three tries in the last five minutes to stun the home crowd at the Fanie du Toit Sports Grounds.
Irini Agathagelou, a 21-year-old beauty therapy student at the Potchefstroom Academy, said she suffered concussion and needed five stitches in the face after being punched.
The incident took place at a Wimpy restaurant in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
A video of the brawl, involving members of both teams, shows Agathagelou hitting Kyle Kriel several times on the head with what appears to be a shoe, before the Ikeys player responds by punching her in the face.
She claims she was merely trying to break up the fight.

North West police spokesperson Kelebogile Moiloa told Monday's Cape Times that no complaint had been lodged with the police.
“I saw the story in the newspapers. We then went to our records to check whether a case has been opened, but there was nothing. She has not come forward to report a case," said Moiloa.
Kriel last Friday released a statement defending himself. He apologised for taking part in the brawl, but said that Agathagelou had been “extremely economical with the truth”.
