Bloemfontein - More than 300 employees who were fired from a private prison in Bloemfontein last year are still waiting to find out whether or not they will be reinstated.
The private company, G4S, dismissed 331 employees for their participation in an illegal strike in September at the Mangaung Correctional Centre.
The Department took over the control of the prison the following month because of security concerns.
Popcru provincial secretary, Rankele Msinto, last month said they hoped that at least 263 employees would be reinstated by the end of May, following an announcement in January that they would get their jobs back.
The department’s spokesperson, Manelisi Wolela, says negotiations between them and G4S are still ongoing.
Meanwhile, the dismissed employees say they collected new uniforms in February, which raised their hopes, but haven’t heard a word since.
