Zietsman foster child settles in for first year of music studies at Kovsies─── SABRINA SABRINA 09:51 Sun, 18 Jan 2015
Bloemfontein - Well-known local singer Elzabé Zietsman is one of the proud “parents” hanging around the University of the Free State (UFS) this weekend as she helps her foster son Naledi Dweba settle in for his first year of music studies.
Dweba is the first of five children Zietsman has taken under her wing through her Doily Foundation to start University.
The Foundation is aimed at providing disadvantaged youngsters with a talent in the arts the assistance and opportunities they need to reach their dreams.
Dweba says he fell in love with music when he heard Amazing Grace played on a recorder in 2007. He managed to purchase a recorder for R100, but only had his first lesson in 2010.
Dweba, who describes Zietsman as far more than just a mother or mentor, got a distinction for music in Matric last year.
He plays the clarinet and was offered a bursary to study music by both the UFS and the University of Cape Town, but has chosen Kovsies.
Despite not having practiced since last year, he gave OFM News a taste of what he can do.
