Sasolburg - Three people have been killed and seven injured in two separate accidents in Sasolburg.
In the first incident, two people were killed in a head-on collision on the R82 Koppies Road at around 7pm last night.
ER24 spokesperson, Werner Vermaak, said paramedics arrived on the scene to find a VW Jetta and an Opel Corsa that collided head on with each other. Two people with fatal injuries were found outside the vehicle. It is understood that the two killed were passengers from the vehicles.
Paramedics found seven other people with injuries. According to one of the occupants a bystander helped them out of the vehicle prior to paramedics’ arrival.
The injured were assessed and treated on the scene and later transported by various services to the Sasolburg General Hospital for further care.
The exact cause of the incident is not yet known.
Meanwhile a man was found dead in his vehicle during the early hours of this morning on the R57 near the Wonderfontein Bridge in Sasolburg.
At approximately 02:30 this morning, paramedics found a man trapped in his vehicle. The wreckage was found several meters away from the road wedged into a large tree. It is believed the incident occurred earlier and was only noticed much later by a passing motorist.
The occupant was declared dead on the scene. Local fire and rescue services had to use special equipment to cut away parts of the tree before they could access the man in the vehicle.
