Potchefstroom - A third-year student at the North West University’s Potchefstroom Campus is expected to appear in the local Magistrate's Court soon after he allegedly stabbed a fellow student with a pair of scissors this morning.
Police spokesperson, Kealeboga Molale, says the student faces a charge of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Campus spokesperson, Johan van Zyl, says the incident happened at around 07:00 on Friday morning at the Over-de-Voor men's residence when a fourth-year financial accounting student, Hendri van Dyk, went to the suspect's room.
Van Zyl says Van Dyk, who is also a house committee member, was helped by fellow residents who managed to pin the suspect to the floor until campus security arrived.
Van Dyk sustained stab wounds to his upper arm, shoulder blade and hip. He has received medical attention.
