R100 000 to bid on luxurious Krejcir homes

───   07:54 Thu, 19 Nov 2015

Johannesburg - Do you fancy owning the homes of a convicted drug dealer, kidnapper and attempted murderer?

Well, for R100 000 you can register to bid on either Czech fugitive Radovan Krejcir's four-storey mansion in the heart of Bedfordview in Johannesburg, or his triple-storey home on the Vaal River if you like the sound of water to lull you to sleep.

Krejcir, on the other hand, spends his nights in a cell at the Zonderwater Prison, from where he allegedly tried to escape.

He and his co-accused were convicted in August and sentencing has been postponed several times, most recently to February next year.

Krejcir is also on trial for several other matters.

The properties, which are under a preservation order by SA Revenue Service, are going under the hammer on Saturday, November 28. The Bedfordview auction will begin at 10:00 and the Vaal auction at 14:00.

An information sheet by auctioneers Michael James Organisation says this is a curatorship auction, and mentions Sars, Krejcir and Groep Twee Beleggings, whose sole director was his wife Katerina Krejcirova.

If you fancy the Bedfordview property, know that it boasts an "open plan kitchen with dining room and separate laundry room", "built-in Miele appliances [including 90cm oven, gas hob, glass hob, coffee machine, microwave/convection oven, integrated fridge and freezer]" and an "enclosed patio area leading to decked rim flow swimming pool and sun lounging area, outside shower, jacuzzi, toilet and bird aviary [and] spectacular views".

But if you want scenic views, the other property is a "timber home with magnificent views over the Vaal River", which has a garden "with beautiful lawns" and a thatched lapa with built-in braai and pizza oven.

It also has a jungle gym and a swimming pool with wooden decking.

Last month a woman who was visiting Krejcir in prison was arrested after a cellphone that was hidden in a shoe began ringing.

The 45-year-old estate agent had gone to Zonderwater to visit him to apparently discuss the sale of his Bedfordview property, The Star newspaper reported at the time.

She alleged that she had been given food and Krejcir’s old running shoes. Inside the sole of one of the shoes, a Samsung cellphone had been hidden, police spokesperson Lieutenant General Solomon Makgale said.

In September, the Department of Correctional Services said it foiled a massive escape plan by inmates, including Krejcir, News24 reported.

Among the items found in Krejcir’s cell during that incident were a pistol, ammunition, a knife, an item that looked like a Taser, a pepper spray gun, screwdriver steel blades, 10 cell phones, a memory stick and a diary which contained the names of witnesses and investigators in his cases.
