Sani Pass - Putting a tarred surface on the Sani Pass in Lesotho would rob the area of its prime tourist attraction status. This is the word from the Wildlife and Environment Society of SA's Russell Suchet.
It was announced last week that the 19 km gravel section of the pass will be tarred.
Suchet says an alternative of resurfacing this section with gravel was well received by the KwaZulu-Natal department of Transport, but ten days ago they learnt that instead of a hard gravel surface, the section in question would be tarred, as opposed to the gravel surface which was initially welcomed.
