#OFMBusinessHour: SA mergers and acquisitions back on the table─── 19:23 Wed, 26 May 2021

South Africa’s Mergers and Acquisitions are back on the table following the disruption brought by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Business Hour spoke to the Director of Mergers and Acquisitions at Servest, Thami Moatshe, to gain insight into the current state of mergers and acquisitions in South Africa. She says currently there is a lot of activity in the arena, especially around strategic assets – entities that were in distress are up for partnership etc.
Moatshe says when lockdown level 5 came into effect in 2020, mergers and acquisition activities stopped: deals that were underway were concluded and potential deals were postponed/delayed. Moatshe says what they have gleaned from the Covid-19 pandemic is that businesses with a healthy cash flow, an agile business strategy that works, and a diversified portfolio, managed to weather the coronavirus storm. However, those offering a single type of service found themselves in distress.
