The Sunshine Tour returns to Kathu in the Northern Cape, for the inaugural Sishen Classic, in partnership with Kumba Iron Ore, a subsidiary of Anglo American.

The tournament will bring the country’s best back to Sishen Golf Club, 26 – 29 May 2022, where they will compete for the highest prize-fund on the Tour’s schedule for non-co-sanctioned events - a whopping R3-million.

The Sunshine Tour is growing faster than ever before and partners like Anglo American make this possible. OFM Sport Editor, Morgan Piek, caught up with Andre Roux, General Manager for Sishen Mine.

Entry to the tournament for spectators is free, with loads of additional activities for locals such as a flea market and live entertainment.

If you can’t be there in person, then catch the action live on Supersport Golf Channel 213, from 28 to 29 May.

The Sunshine Tour is a men’s professional golf tour based in Southern Africa. For much of its early history it was known either as the South African Tour or Sunshine Circuit; through sponsorship deals, it has also been known as the Vodacom Tour and the FNB Tour. The tour rebranded itself as the Sunshine Tour in an attempt to broaden its appeal. A large majority of the tour events are still staged in South Africa.

The tour is one of the six leading men’s tours which before 2009 made up the membership of the International Federation of PGA Tours, but it offers much less prize money than some of the leading tours, and leading Southern African golfers traditionally prefer to play on the PGA Tour or the European Tour if they can qualify to do so, typically returning to play in Sunshine Tour events a couple of times a year.
