Police looking for suspects who violated Odendaalsrus grave─── PULANE CHOANE 08:02 Tue, 15 Jan 2019
Police in Odendaalsrus, 10 kilometres from Welkom in the Free State, are looking for suspects believed to have tampered with a grave at the local graveyard.
This is according to police spokesperson in the province, Stephen Thakeng, who said that this comes after the Hantsi family found that their father’s grave had been tampered with on 1 January earlier this year. The family found that the grave was removed, leaving only the tombstone, following which they then registered a case with local police authorities.
The family told police that they last visited the grave on 15 September last year and all was in order the last time they saw it. Then on New Year’s Day this year, when they went to visit it again, it was then that they discovered that the grave of their loved one was damaged. The total cost of the damage is estimated to be R8000 and police are appealing to anyone with information, to come forward.
“Anyone who might know the suspects can contact the investigating officer Constable Ntsiki Madyongolo of Odendaalsrus Detective Services at telephone number 057-916-2400 during office hours,” Thakeng said.
