The funeral of the Kimberley pupil, who was stabbed to death and robbed of a pair of shoes almost a week ago, is taking place in the Northern Cape capital, this Saturday (March 16).

The 17-year-old Boniface Ndlovu was a star matric pupil at Emmanuel Secondary School at the time of his death, ranked among the top academic performers at his school.

Media reports indicate that in the early hours of Sunday morning, March 10, Ndlovu was walking with three of his friends from Homevale to Galeshewe when they were accosted by ten men armed with knives. While his friends managed to flee albeit without their belongings, the teenager was stabbed twice in the chest and died at the scene.

The suspects took Ndlovu’s brown Carvella shoes, which he is said to have worn at his matric farewell on Friday, March 8.

No arrest have been made in connection with the murder.

The incident occurred amidst a wave of violent stabbings in schools countrywide this week, raising alarms regarding safety at schools.

Mere days after Ndlovu was killed, 19-year old student at Mondeor High School in the South of Johannesburg, Kulani Mathebula was stabbed to death on Wednesday, as he was walking to school, allegedly by three minors.

Reports indicate the three boys, who are between the ages of 13 and 15 may have stolen the deceased’s cell phone, even though this is yet to be confirmed.

Timeslive reports that two of the boys have accepted responsibility fort Mathebula’s murder.

In the North West province, a 13–year-old girl was found with a knife lodged into her stomach in the girl’s bathroom at a school in Tlhabane in Rustenburg.

Police spokesperson, Amanda Funani, told OFM News that the police are investigating a case of grievous bodily harm and the girl is still recovering in a local hospital.
