Storm causes severe damage in De Aar─── MARVIN NTSANE 09:34 Mon, 10 Feb 2020
The town of De Aar in the Northern Cape experienced severe thunderstorms which caused flooding of roads, damage to buildings and electrical lines, and uprooted trees on Friday.
The South African Weather Services' Kevin Ingram says this storm came just as the province's rainfall season started.
Residents took to social media claiming that the town is in need of divine intervention, following the devastation this thunderstorm left.
Ingram, however, says this is not really something out of the ordinary, and residents should expect more rain.
He adds this is good, as the Northern Cape is ranked among the worst drought-stricken areas in the country.
Meanwhile, more rain can be expected in the Free State and North West this week.
