The much-anticipated meeting scheduled to take place at the Premier’s house comes just hours before the sitting of the Mangaung council. The financial state of the municipality, its ability to render services to residents and the mandate of the new administrative team is expected to come under the loop after it was downgraded twice by Moody’s Investors Services and placed under administration by the provincial government.

In a media briefing chaired by the ANC’s Provincial Secretary Paseka Nompondo last week, the party confirmed that the state of this municipality is a great concern as it is the first metropolitan municipality to be placed under the provincial care. Nompondo added that the party is generally concerned over municipalities’ financial woes and political environment.

Web: He alluded that they are keeping a close eye on all municipalities that have been under the provincial care for more than three years. This includes that infamous Maluti-A-Phofung municipality, which has recently been rocked by service delivery protests with residents demanding sustainable water supply.

Nompondo, however, added that the ANC in the Free State is confident the state of municipalities in the province will improve and that teams of administrators deployed to municipalities currently under administration will bring about stability.
