FS Education MEC asks for prayers─── MARVIN NTSANE 05:45 Mon, 09 Mar 2020
Free State Education MEC, Tate Makgoe, has asked for prayers after the loss of two primary school learners in a week, and others that were involved in an accident.
Sixty learners from Monyakeng High School in Wesselsbron, Free State, were involved in an accident on Saturday.
It is alleged the brakes of their school bus failed, causing it to roll and end up on its side. A total of eight learners and one teacher sustained minor injuries.
In the same week, eight-year-old, Relebohile Mokgadi, from Tsholetsang Primary School in Bloemfontein, died after he allegedly consumed poisoned chocolate. Six others were also hospitalised.
Makgoe was expected to visit the school today. However, Free State Education department spokesperson, Howard Ndaba, says the visit has been cancelled and a new date will be issued. Mokgadi's funeral is expected to be this week.
Meanwhile, six-year-old Relebohile Metsing, from Leeuwrivier Primary school in Tweespruit, was killed following a scholar transport accident last Monday.
