#CoronavirusFS: Mlamleli approves of additional funeral precautions | News Article

The Mayor of Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality, Olly Mlamleli, has approved of the additional precautions taken by cemeteries and funeral homes in Bloemfontein to handle the remains of COVID-19 patients.

Mlamleli spoke to OFM News on the back of her positive visit with other members of the Mangaung Coronavirus Command Council to the Twilight Funeral Home located in the Ashbury suburb, the Bainsvlei cemetery and the local crematorium. Mlamleli broke down some of her highlights from the visit which included the additional space at the Bainsvlei cemetery. The Mangaung metro mayor has vowed to lead similar visits by the Coronavirus Command Council in Botshabelo and Thaba’Nchu in the near future.

The metro, which includes the above-mentioned areas as well as Dewetsdorp, Soutpan, Wepener and Vanstadensrus has been classified as the epicentre of the coronavirus outbreak in the Free State with the bulk of the 56 active cases and 6 deaths in the province found in the metro. The most recent coronavirus figures released by Health Minister, Zweli Mkhize, only provide a provincial picture of the outbreak and as a result there is no indication presently how many cases exactly are in the regions across the Free State.

On Wednesday, the OFM News team reported that the Bloemfontein Correctional Contracts (BCC) confirms that an employee at the Mangaung maximum private prison outside Bloemfontein in the Free State has tested positive for the novel coronavirus. BCC, in which G4S is a shareholder, says the female employee who works at the Mangaung Correctional Centre's library, as well as her contacts, are currently isolated. OFM also reported that the Batho Police Station has been forced to close down temporarily after one of its police officers tested positive for Covid-19.
