NCOP takes Women’s Charter sessions to more NC districts | News Article

Parliament's review sessions of the 1994 Women’s Charter for Effective Equality will today focus on the Pixley ka Seme Municipality in the Northern Cape.

The sessions led by the former Northern Cape Premier and current Deputy Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces (NCOP), Sylvia Lucas, have to date covered three of the five district municipalities in the province.

Lucas previously told OFM News that review sessions are not only aimed at assessing the impact of the charter and how women’s lives have improved since the dawn of democracy, but at shedding light on the plight they still face.

Following virtual consultative processes that have taken place since last week in the ZF Magcawu, Frances Baard and John Taolo Districts, women in the Pixley ka Seme Municipality, which include the town of De Aar, are expected to raise more concerns regarding gender-based violence, high unemployment and a lack of economic opportunities for women in the province.
