The Minister of Transport, Fikile Mbalula, is expected to hold this press conference following President Cyril Ramaphosa’s address on Sunday. Ramaphosa announced that taxis can operate between provinces at 70% capacity with immediate effect, and at a 100% capacity for local travel, provided a window is opened in addition to the previous measures. 

OFM News reported in June that Mbalula appealed to taxi bosses to keep calm and not to threaten war. That was after Santaco ordered its drivers to ignore lockdown regulations and fully load their minibuses. 

Mbalula is expected to begin the press conference at 16:00 on Thursday on these measures in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
