Trafficking suspects yet to appear in court─── 15:02 Wed, 30 Sep 2020
Two suspects facing charges of human trafficking in Rustenburg in the North West are yet to appear at the Rustenburg Magistrate’s Court following their arrest this past Sunday by the Hawks.
According to the Northern Cape provincial Hawks’ spokesperson, Nomthandazo Mnisi, the case against the duo has not yet been placed on the court roll due to unknown reasons.
These two form part of five suspects who were arrested during a raid on Sunday at a Bed and Breakfast (B&B) which were used as brothels following a year-long investigation by the Hawks.
Their arrest resulted in the rescue of 13 girls from countries such as Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Zambia, and South Africa after they were lured with false job promises.
On Sunday, OFM News reported that the Hawks arrested five suspects for allegedly human trafficking women to work in brothels in Kuruman in the Northern Cape and Rustenburg in the North West.
The Hawks spokesperson, Hangwani Mulaudzi, said the suspects were arrested at different properties in Kuruman and Rustenburg during a take-down operation.
Mulaudzi said they are working with Home Affairs and the identity of the suspects will be released later.
