A Bloemfontein policeman is being investigated for murder following an alleged case of housebreaking at his home in Heidedal.
Free State police spokesperson, Motantsi Makhele, tells OFM News according to information the officer shot a 24-year-old man in the chest, wounded another, whilst a third suspect managed to escape.
This after the three would-be robbers allegedly broke into the officer’s house in the early hours of Tuesday morning where it is alleged that they were caught red-handed attempting to steal a plasma screen television set, belonging to the policeman.
Makhele says the officer, who was asleep at the time of the alleged housebreaking, woke up and noticed the suspects inside his house. "The suspects fought with the complainant who took out his service firearm and shot at the suspects," he further adds.
One suspect was shot on his chest and passed away at the scene. A 30-year-old suspect was shot in the leg. He was arrested and is in custody now.
