FS High Court to speed up #GBV cases | News Article

The Bloemfontein High Court Deputy Judge President (DJP), Johan Daffue, has commended the Free State ANC women's league's efforts to highlight the plight of women.

He says the women's league must continue with their good work. This follows after scores of women - led by the provincial chairperson of the ANC  - Olly Mlamleli, picketed outside the court and demanded justice against perpetrators of gender-based violence (GBV).

He says the court will specifically turn its focus to matters which were brought to the fore by the women's league, and that they will be properly dealt with.

Daffue adds that his record when dealing with murderers and rapists of women speaks for itself.

This past week, the ANC women's league across the country marched to the various High Courts and demanded that cases which have been languishing unattended for years be speedily dealt with.

In the Free State, the women's league marched to the High Court and the Supreme Court of appeal, both in Bloemfontein. This, amidst the launch of the 16 Days of Activism for no violence against women and children by President Cyril Ramaphosa this week.

Meanwhile, the Police Minister, Bheki Cele, recently released crime statistics where he stated that sexual crimes have increased.
