NPA notes the acquittal of Mpembe and co-accused─── 14:12 Tue, 30 Mar 2021

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) says it notes the acquittal of former Deputy Provincial Commissioner of the North West, together with his three co-accused.
William Mpembe and his three co-accused were acquitted on Monday following a lengthy trial after being nabbed for defeating and obstructing the ends of justice following the murder of a Marikana miner in August 2012.
The NPA regional spokesperson, Henry Mamothame, says the four were trialled after they allegedly withheld information regarding the death of Modisaotsile Segalala.
Segalala allegedly died in a police van during the protracted strikes by miners which claimed more than 30 lives. It's furthermore alleged that Segalala was handcuffed and put inside a police van after suffering a gunshot wound to his chest.
