DA councillor passes away due to #Covid19─── LUCKY NKUYANE 06:19 Thu, 05 Aug 2021
A DA councillor at the Bloemfontein-based Manguang Metro Municipality (MMM) in the Free State has passed away due to Covid-19 related complications.
This is according to the party's provincial chairperson, Werner Horner, in a statement.
Hans Britz passed away on Tuesday 3 August at the age of 75 after being a councillor for more than 10 years.
Horner says Britz previously served as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) when the metro was still a local municipality.
Britz was elected as DA councillor in 2011 and is said to have played a pivotal role in the fight against financial mismanagement and good service delivery.
Horner adds that the Free State has lost a hardworking public servant who served his community with distinction.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time, who have lost a husband, a father, and a grandfather. We send them strength and love, but know that they will be consoled by good memories during this difficult time," Horner further adds.
OFM News previously reported that Britz expressed concerns with the metro's power utility Centlec who increased the water and electricity tariff in July.
