Snowfall expected in some parts of the FS over the weekend─── 08:04 Thu, 12 Aug 2021
The South African Weather Services (SAWS) has warned of snowfall that is expected in the eastern parts of the Free State from Friday morning until Saturday morning. The models indicate 2cm of accumulated snowfall on Friday.
According to SAWS this will contribute to difficult driving conditions on the N3 and loss of livestock and crops. As a result, farmers have been advised to shelter their animals, and people should dress warmly and avoid outdoor activities. Areas that are expected to be affected by snow, include Dihlabeng, Maluti-a-Phofung and Phumelela, amongst others. SAWS also issued a warning that Phuthaditjhaba and Van Reenen’s Pass are areas of concerns where models are indicating 5cm of accumulated snowfall, endangering life and disrupting services.
Meanwhile, people are informed to be aware of possible closed, icy road conditions. They should increase following distances when driving. SAWS has also advised people to make contact with their nearest disaster management specialists and keep listening to radio for any updates.
