Protests causing heavy traffic backlog on N3 in FS | News Article

The current situation on the N3 toll route is that traffic remains at a standstill in the vicinity of Montrose in the Free State.

Operations Manager for the N3 toll concession, Thania Dhoogra, tells OFM News there is still a backlog of traffic between and around the scene, approximately three kilometres in the direction of Harrismith and one and a half kilometres in the direction of Van Reenen. Dhoogra says law enforcement officials are on the scene and engaging with drivers who are currently obstructing the road.

According to thesouthafrican.com, the N3 toll route near Montrose has come to a standstill after protesting truck drivers blocked the road. Traffic is at a standstill in both directions and is reportedly backlogged between Van Reenen, KwaZulu-Natal, and Harrismith in the Free State. The backlog is also causing delays for motorists heading northbound to Gauteng at Tugela Plaza, according to Arrive Alive.

“However, we do not know what the underlining cause is, or the motivation behind this. We have not received any reports of any violence, fortunately, but we are advising motorists [who plan] on travelling to the area because the road is obstructed,” says Dhoogra.
