A Bloemfontein doctor has come to the aid of children with special needs in the Free State amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.

Dr Johan Grobbelaar, an Ear, Nose and Throat Surgeon (ENT) at Mediclinic Bloemfontein, has taken time of his schedule to assist children with special needs for ongoing treatment after the pandemic has caused a major backlog in treatment schedules.

According to the founder of HeadStartKids, Lily Geerdts, Dr Grobbelaar is offering his services free of charge to assist needy children, upon discovering how HeadStartKids aims to help children with special needs.

She says that Grobbelaar has his consulting room at Mediclinic and that he offers to assist these children with any ear, nose and throat problems.

She adds the partnership with Dr Grobbelaar and other various stakeholders came at the right time, as today - November 6 - is National Children’s Day.

OFM News previously reported that HeadStartKids, a non-profit organisation specialising in early childhood education, celebrated National Children's Day with various other stakeholders to bring awareness about the impact that Covid-19 had on children in Bloemfontein.

On Friday, Geerdts, together with stakeholders, visited the Carel du Toit Special Needs School and handed out bread, flour and toys, in celebration of National Children’s day.
