EFF members were in the first batch to be sworn in by Magistrate Saliwa.

The city manager, Sello More, is conducting the process and once the speaker has been elected they will take over the proceedings. The ANC has retained the metro by a margin of 51 seats after it received 50.63%. So far the process has been running smoothly with no incident, despite a group of DA members and Mangaung Concerned Community (MCC) supporters protesting outside for various reasons.

The process to nominate the speaker has begun with different political parties submitting their preferred candidate. The EFF has abstained from nominating a speaker.

ANC elected Stephani Lockman, and the DA elected Lebohang Masoetsa as their speaker candidates.
