Mangaung ANC official affected by ‘step aside’ rule─── LUCKY NKUYANE 10:00 Sat, 11 Dec 2021
An ANC official in the Free State has been affected by the party's step aside resolution.
Former Member of the Mayoral Committee (Mayco) in the Bloemfontein-based Mangaung Metro, Patrick Monyakoane, has been suspended from the party. This was confirmed by the ANC Mangaung Interim Regional Committee spokesperson, Ncamisa Ngxangisa.
He says the structure met recently to deliberate on the adopted policy and a decision to suspend those facing charges of corruption or serious crime in a court a law was then taken, and Monyakoane was affected. Monyakoane is facing charges of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH) in Thaba Nchu's regional court, following an attack on former ANC members in 2012.
Ngxangisa says once Monyakoane has cleared his name he would be integrated back into the party. Monyakoane was sworn in as councillor recently in Mangaung during the inauguration ceremony held at the multimillion-rand refurbished City Hall.
He also fell a victim to a stabbing incident and was hospitalised following the attack by unknown suspects who accosted him during a meeting at the Metro's offices.
